01

Care agencies provide information

When a care agency detects suspicious behaviour or harassment that is reported or un-reported to the police they can add the details to our database to contribute to a risk rating that will be shared with other organisations.

We'll review the information and ensure it meets our standards for addition to the clients anonymised risk profile.

02

We process and secure the data

Once approved we combine the clients contact information with other datasets and discovered aliases before securing all personal details so that they can never be recovered without the original information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question? We've got answers.

Why should I share information with other agencies?

Any information that you add to Carer Protect is never directly shared with other organisations. We collate the data and secure it with hashing algorithims so that only those that already have a set of contact details can access a risk score. No organisation, not even Carer Protect, will be able to acquire the contact details without first possessing them.

It's a fact that patients will have interventions from a variety of care sources over the course of their care journey. They may be receiving care through NHS reablement care, then local authorities or through private carers. By contributing to a clients risk score your keeping any carer that may be going into the same situation after you safe.

GDPR specifies a number of tests for the lawful processing of data, the most common method is to seek permission from the individual but there other methods. For example:

processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the controller or by a third party, except where such interests are overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject which require protection of personal data, in particular where the data subject is a child.

We implement a hashing algorithim on all personal data in the system. This is a one way process that converts data into a unique string that can only be reproduced when the original data is known. This means that when another agency searches for the same email / phone number we can find a match, but if someone looked at our database all they would see is random data.

Furthermore, when returning data to the agencies we aggregate reports and other data into simple risk groupings and recommendations that don't include details of the report.

We are operating a social enterprise business model with our core goal being the improved safety of carers. As such, we want to get this system into the hands of as many organisations as possible while also covering the costs of maintaing the service with a fixed monthly/annual pricing based on organisation size.

A report by the GMB union found that there were 6,034 violent attacks on carers over a 5 year period with the real number anticipated to be much higher. That's over 3 attacks a day.

We know that women make up 85% of the workforce with certain demographics being especially vulnerable. We think that this is a real problem that needs radical solutions.

It's our belief that Carer Protect can be part of that solution to help keep organisations informed of risks.

Carer Protect is not intended to be used as a blacklist. We are simply trying to highlight potential risks with individuals to help your organisation to manage the risks accordingly.

When we return a risk rating for an identity, we'll make a number of recomendations to allow you to engage with this client safely.

As part of these recommendations we will warn you if we believe that this individual has previously shown criminal intentions and may not be engaging your organisations services for genuine help.

The goal of Carer Protect is to improve the safety of carers. In our eyes, violence towards carers should be reported, no matter the particular conditions an individual may be suffering from. Having said that, we do make a differentiation between those suffering the symptoms of a condition and those exploiting the care system to harass or attempt to abuse carers.

When reporting an incident to Carer Protect, we'll ask a series of questions in order to determine the capability of the offender and circumstances of the offence which helps us place the offenders intentions on a scale between confused and criminal.

Not every organisation can gain access to Carer Protect, we only admit companies that meet our standards, are deeply involved in the industry and have a valid need for the risk profiles.

Carer Protect members go through a detailed onboarding process that involves training on how to report incidents and how to understand the risk profiles they receive. We also confirm that their companies contracts allow for the sharing of information with Carer Protect.

Once a report is added, our team manually check the details of the report and will reach out to the company for any confirmation that may be required to ensure that our database only contains reliable reports.
